Iron & Velvet
I do not feel overly confident using my homemade orange-infused white vinegar for cleaning all around the house. It is great in the bathroom or for getting rid of limescale on taps or shower heads, for cleaning shower screens and windows. However due to it being an acid, it is not suitable for lots surfaces including wood, granite and natural stone; it can be limiting. I was therefore very excited to find my local plastic / waste free store: Plastic Free Weigh at Knutsford Market Hall sells Iron & Velvet. They are plastic and waste free cleaning products which come concentrated in completely water soluble sachets. Just like those bath pearls you may have used. No waste, nothing to send back to anywhere to be reused or recycled. So far it really is a great solution for helping with my plastic free journey.
I have been keeping my empty plastic spray bottles as I finish them up; knowing I will not be buying any more of these items has given them value. These sachets are so easy to use: fill a spray bottle up with warm water, drop in a sachet and wait for it to dissolve. Then you have it - your cleaning product ready to go. Iron & Velvet have a selection of different sachets for all different areas of the house: floor cleaner, oven cleaner, window cleaner and even a kitchen anti bacteria solution. They smell fantastic - my favourite is the coconut and lime kitchen antibacterial surface cleaner.
Each sachet comes with its very own sticky label so you can stick it to your bottle to identify what is inside. I am very pleased with the results so far.
