Home Grown Lettuce
Generally I have not had so much luck with the seeds I planted at the beginning of the year. Basically they all failed when I transferred them outside. But the baby leaf mixed salad seeds I planted at the beginning of June were a lot more successful. I planted them directly into compost from our compost bin in a small pot on the patio (you don't need lots of space at all). Within a month I was able to cut lettuce and it is the gift that just keeps giving: I struggle to eat enough. Lettuce is still so difficult to find in the shops or markets plastic free so I am making the most of it while it continues to grow. Luckily Altrincham market does sell cucumbers and tomatoes plastic free at the moment so I can make a full salad. (My tomatoes in the garden are still a while off being ready to be put on a plate).
